Following the adventures of Finn the Human and his magical dog Jake in the Land of Ooo, the show starts off as whimsical and episodic but quickly evolves into a complex narrative with a rich backstory and nuanced characters. The animation style is distinctive and ever-evolving, allowing for incredible creative freedom in its world-building and character designs. The show is known for its ability to seamlessly transition from silly, lighthearted fun to profound, philosophical moments, often within the same episode. It's a series that rewards patience, as its deeper themes and overarching plot lines unfold gradually, revealing a surprisingly intricate and often poignant universe. The voice acting is superb, with Jeremy Shada and John DiMaggio leading a talented ensemble.

Plus, it's the creative wellspring that influenced many shows that came after it, including Steven Universe itself, as Rebecca Sugar was a writer and storyboard artist on the series!
