The Sessions is a wonderfully heartwarming and surprisingly humorous film based on the true story of Mark O'Brien, a poet and journalist paralyzed by polio who decides, at age 38, that he wants to lose his virginity. John Hawkes gives an extraordinary, Oscar-nominated performance as Mark, bringing immense humanity and wit to the role. Helen Hunt also received an Oscar nomination for her brave portrayal of Cheryl Cohen Greene, his sex surrogate. The film handles its delicate subject matter with incredible sensitivity, intelligence, and a refreshing lack of sentimentality. It's a beautiful story about intimacy, acceptance, and the universal human desire for connection, proving that love and desire transcend physical limitations.
